Cricket
We reached the National Finals of the Y6 Kwik Cricket and travelled
to Trent Bridge to play on the same pitch as Flintoff and Trescothick
had only two weeks earlier! The Cricket Team also finished runners up
in the Yr5 Regional Kwik Cricket and won the Stuart Hebditch hard ball
competition played at the County Ground, a remarkable year!
Table
Tennis
This year
has been the most successful ever in table tennis at the school.
At the start of 2005, the boys U11 team won the County Team Championships
at Bridgwater and went on to represent Somerset at the South-West Regional
Finals held in Plymouth. They won through to the South of England Zone
Finals held in Cheltenham, where they were beaten by the eventual national
winners from Essex, after beating the Worcestershire Champions.
In the Individual Somerset Championships, we had winners in the U11
and U10 Boys and U9 Girls. Callum Sawyer, winner of the U11 Boys, went
on to the National Finals held in Stoke-on-Trent.
The school also received a National Lottery Grant for the sport that
has been used to replace the sheets of chipboard we had been using with
proper tables.
In September, the school had three teams playing in a local table tennis
league gaining valuable match play and experience. The Trinity X team
are contenders for the title in their league as we go into 2006.
Tennis
The school year culminated in the School Tennis Finals day, where 12
finals were played in front of large crowds. Well over half the school
entered these championships that were umpired by Year 6 pupils and parents.
The Mini-Tennis Red, Orange and Green girl's teams won the County Championships
in all these events. We have three girls currently playing for Somerset.
The School has recently been presented with a cheque for £400
from the Lawn Tennis Association that has been used to provide each
class with three half hour tennis/ball skill lessons.
The school makes full use of the playground for before-school tennis
coaching which is mostly run by parents. The Blackbrook Tennis Centre
and the Community Tennis Partnership with Taunton Tennis Club and Bishop
Fox's all provide facilities and coaching to develop the children's
standards further. Bishop Fox's School have been most generous and accommodating
during the season, providing a venue for all the home matches. With
the development of the Community Tennis Partnership between Taunton
Tennis Club and the local secondary and primary schools, it is hoped
that the town will see a steady stream of future Andrew Castles or Andrew
Murrays occupying Centre Court at Wimbledon!
Music
Key Stage 2 children are encouraged to play musical instruments. Currently
lessons are arranged for brass, woodwind, guitar and recorders.
