THE
CLEARY CENTRE - A unique LEA Primary Hearing Resource Base and
Assessment Centre
The Cleary Centre
is a Somerset County Council LEA resource based at Holy Trinity Primary
School, Taunton to support deaf children in the West Somerset area.
It is unique because,
in addition to providing an acoustically favourable learning and listening
environment the Cleary Centre houses a paediatric family friendly assessment
room which is used by Health and Educational Audiologists as well as
ENT and Cochlear Implant specialists.
All staff at the
Centre are qualified teachers of the deaf and specially trained support
assistants. School staff have many years experience teaching deaf children
and are keen to include these youngsters into their learning groups.
The deaf children
who come to this school have access to the most recent amplification
technology including digital hearing aids, cochlear implants, radio
hearing aids and classroom sound field systems. They are encouraged
and challenged to develop their listening skills so they can take their
rightful place in a speaking and listening world.
We are proud of
these youngsters who show real determination to overcome some of the
very demanding challenges of deafness.
The Cleary Centre
was named after the first Head of Service in Somerset from 1959 - 1980,
Mr. Pat Cleary.
